Sneaker of the Week: Nike gives its Air Max Muse the jewellery treatment
Who needs another tennis bracelet when your sneakers can do the heavy lifting?
Every wardrobe has its pair of sensible, everyday white trainers. The pair you wear not to run marathons but errands, to go to the office, and the pair that survives uneven pavements if you live in a walkable city.
The Nike Air Max Muse isn’t here to replace this trusty pair.
If anything, it’s here to occupy a very different corner of your wardrobe: the one made up of embellished ballet flats, waxed jeans, and satin scarves. These are the pieces you buy not because they’re filling a functional gap, but because they make getting dressed just a little bit more delightful.

Fashion has never been built on necessity alone. If it were, we’d all own one pair of white kicks and call it a day. The best purchases rarely begin with “I need this.” They begin with “I love what the designers have created here,” or in some cases, an item that has made you gasp in the middle of the store.
Which is precisely why the Nike Air Max Muse “White + Tough Red” colourway caught our attention this week.

There’s something worth appreciating about a brand exercising its creative muscles without feeling the need to reinvent the wheel. It’s starting to feel like every sneaker release is expected to arrive with a manifesto these days, promising to disrupt the market, revive an icon or become your next wardrobe essential. However, the Air Max Muse sidesteps all of that.
First released in Japan in July as part of Nike’s Floral Pack, this style is designed exclusively for women rather than adapted from an existing men’s model. The Air Max Muse therefore reflects a growing confidence in treating women’s sports footwear as its own design conversation instead of a footnote.
The silhouette is noticeably more sculptural than a classic Air Max, with an exaggerated arch that gives it an elegant, elevated stance. Layers of smooth leather, breathable mesh and premium textiles add dimension without making the shoe feel overworked, while the visible Air unit remains the unmistakable hero. Then comes the detail that makes it noteworthy: metallic floral hardware wrapped around the heel, turning one of Nike’s most recognisable pieces of cushioning into something that feels more like a piece of jewellery than sportswear.

It’s playful, polished and proof that even performance icons can indulge in a little ornamentation.
Will it replace your usual pair of Air Max trainers? Probably not.
But that’s the point.
