TASTE TEST: The team is divided over two new Cadbury chocolate flavours

Gerda Engelbrecht

Cadbury recently launched the Strawberry Cheesecake and Birthday Cake chocolate flavours and we shared them in the office.

If there’s any kind of new chocolate on the market I will probably be one of the first to buy it and try it. And with two very inviting flavours I couldn’t get my hands on them fast enough.

How does it taste?

The Strawberry Cheesecake lives up to its name. Small specks of strawberry jelly (similar to Jelly Tots) are evenly distributed through the slab. The texture is creamy and the taste reminds you of the strawberry milk you had as a kid. It’s quite sweet, as white chocolate tends to be.

The surprise was the Birthday Cake flavour, which has a generous amount of colourful sprinkles and shortbread in the slab.

The verdict

Taste test 1 was with my family in front of the TV after dinner. The family was divided. Three members favoured the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour and one preferred the Birthday Cake.

In the office the consensus was that the Birthday Cake actually doesn’t taste like birthday cake at all and that it is generally good, but that it needs a “wow”.

The Strawberry Cheesecake was a fan favourite. The general feeling was that the tartness of the strawberry cuts through the sweetness of the white chocolate, and that the strawberry pieces give a good burst at the end.

At least three colleagues said they wouldn’t buy it, but then added that they normally don’t buy white chocolate.

ALL THAT says

If you like Nestlé’s Milky Bar versions with the Smarties and Jelly Tots, you might have a new favourite. If not, you can give it a skip. We would love to see versions of this in a darker chocolate though.

We bought ours from Checkers.
